Dr. Ron Hekier and Dr. Rachael Keilin have performed nearly 2,000 LapBand procedures. We are both certified as proctors by Allergan, the manufacturer of the LapBand, which means we are certified to teach other surgeons how to perform the LapBand surgery
Dr. Rachael Keilin believes in offering leading edge surgical care in an unhurried, compassionate environment. Her advanced surgical training has allowed her to introduce several new technologies to the region, such as the Lap Band for surgical weight loss.
Dr. Keilin received her college degree at Yale University, graduating with the distinction Magna Cum Laude. She then went on to the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, and graduated with the honor of membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha society, an honor reserved for the top graduates of each medical school class.
She received her surgical training at the Baylor College of Medicine, at the Texas Medical Center in Houston, one of the largest medical centers in the country. Dr. Keilin completed additional advanced training in a fellowship in trauma and critical care.Surgical critical care certification is an achievement accomplished by fewer than 100 physicians in the U.S. each year.
She is currentlyboard-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Ron Hekier has dedicated his career to improving the quality of care given to every one of his patients. He is committed to staying informed by continually seeking out new education and training to offer surgical options that are safer, less painful and offer a quicker recovery for you.
Dr. Hekier earned his medical degree at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, graduating as a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Society, an award reserved for the top members of medical school classes.
He completed his surgical training at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston with instruction and experience at prestigious hospitals such as the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. He is board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Hekier is a member of several medical organizations and was the first physician in this region to ever be a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons and the American Society of Breast Diseases. He is currently the Bariatric Medical Director at the Texarkana Surgery Center.
He is also a member of the Michael E. DeBakey International Surgical Society.
In his spare time Dr. Ron Hekier enjoys reading, spending time learning new applications on his computer, and collecting and learning more about antique maps, specializing in maps of the Holy Land from the 16th - 18th century.
